Title: Differnces
Size:91.44 cm X 60.96 cm Medium: acrylic on canvas Month of completion: April Exhibition Text:This triptych was made to show who I am, what affects me, and what I affect. The artist in the city canvas was intended to show me making the place a little brighter, but i know that it’s only on a small scale which is why I’m so much larger than the buildings. The city in the artist is supposed to show what has effected me so I’m sitting in a tree reading, the two places i spent the most time at as a kid were the library and the park and they’ve had the largest effect on me. |
Artist:The painting that is the artist portion of the triptych I based of off the pop art movement, particularly Lichtenstein's work. I tried to match the style of his lips and eyes in it. This painting is supposed to show who I am, so I just wanted to leave it fairly plain but still have bright colors. I used the black background to make the other colors show more. The hardest part of making this panel was layering the colors because the background was so dark, the hair in Lichtenstein's work was yellow but even after three layers of paint i still wasn't able to get the same brightness that his work has.
Artist in the city: The artist in the city panel was also based upon the pop art movement where the body in it is flat and the buildings do not have details. This part needed to show what effect I have on my environment. I know that any difference I'm making isn't a large one which is why the buildings are so small, but I hope that I'm making the area around me a little bit brighter so the buildings that I've passed in the painting are all brighter than the ones in the foreground.

City in the artist: This panel shows what effect my environment has had on me. I based this one instead on art nouveau artists Alphonse Muchas work where the borders were thick and the subject was surrounded by flowers or in my case tree. The two places I spent a lot of time at as a kid were the library and the parks, which is why I'm reading a book in a tree, that's what I did.
Reflection: I don't know if this piece was a success or a failure because there are defiantly some parts that i like but other parts just suck. I should have spent more time on the body in the artist in the city than i did on the background. The way that the artist panel turned out I'm happy with overall, but I'd've liked for the hair to be a brighter yellow. The city in the artist panel is okay, but the proportion is so off in it. So one panel is a failure, one's a success and one's in between.

1)The way the inspiration effected my work is seen in the style of the bodies and buildings I used. In the artist in the city panel its seen in the way the form is placed.
2)Personally I really like both the art nouveau and pop art movements. The coloring in the pop art movement as well as the way depth is created with out shading. In the art nouveau movement was more about ideals of beauty and the forms in it were made to look as such.
3)Generalizations on the art nouveau movement are on how it was highly focused on women and what beauty was. Generalizations on The pop art movement are about the focus on recreating the comic style or on showing the lack of individuality that industry provided.
4)A central theme in my research was on the bright colors and how to portray people. Also in nature vs industrial background choices.
5) I made conclusions in my research in the motives that artists held in what the wanted to portray and also in the feelings that they held toward their subject.
