Title: Colored trinity
Size: 19cM X 16.5cM
Month of completion:April
Medium: This is an assemblage mixed media piece done in paint and found pieces of plastic. It was created based off of Jessica Stockholder's very colorful work and the Celtic symbol of the trinity knot. It was intended to showcase the meaning of the three women version of the trinity knot , the mother, the maiden, and the crone while maintaining a contentedness to show a cycle. The goal was to focus in on the original meaning of this symbol and how color could be used to showcase it.

Inspiration and meaning: The artist inspiration I used for this piece was Jessica Stockholder, most of her work really focuses in on color and what I tried to do with this piece was use the color to help covey the meaning behind these symbols. These are Celtic symbols that both have more then one meaning associated with them. The five fold is seen by some as the four elements(Earth, water, fire, air) and Aether but by others its the seasons and transit. The symbol I chose to use for my final piece is the trinity knot one of the original meanings was three types of women the mother the maiden and the crone, but when settlers came they interpreted it as the holy trinity(the father, son, and holy ghost). In the final peice the green is the mother, the pink the maiden, and the red is the crone.

Reflection: I think this piece actually turned out fairly well, I made something to fit the requirements of being mixed media but it actually looks good too. The piece has a connection to a culture and and artist and aside from the actual making it its good. making this piece was a pain and I ended up with my hands covered in paint. One of the bigger issues is that the piece that i created originally for this mixed media project didn't photograph well, in real life the five fold looks very good but as a photograph having white and translucent plastic on a white background doesn't show up very well. A second issue was that both trinity knots are on different papers so they cant be photographed together easily so you cant look at them and use the color to see the difference in meaning that the original symbol was to what the settlers saw it as.
