This peice began by griding out the photo that I was basing it off of and then using those lines to base where the face would be falling, I wanted the melting effect to beggin at the bottom half of the face and base the lines off of that. I then out lined the drawing in sharpie and using the grafite transfer mothod created three similar out lines that way I could test differnet mediums.
Colouring the photo with markers created very intense and bright colours which mimiced Lichtenstiens style, however using markers also lead to colours bleeding out and made it difficult to colour neatly. I coloured the next outline using paint the paint also allowed for bright colours but I felt it made very uneven blobs insted of circles. In the third outline I used coloured pencil although this made dull colours in the practice test I found that it was the easyiest to control. Given this i decided to use coloured pencil in the final as i Felt i could create bolder colours with higher presure given. After grafite transfering the outline to the paper I was doing the final on I added thicker lines for shading and depth to show Lictensteins influence in the peice. Although the melting lines had already een placed I decided to dispersce the shading dots when they reached the line of melting. Because of this I had to grid out the interity of the face I used a cm grid and used the standard stagered pattern and once they reached the line the dots get further spaced downwards. |
This peices meaning is based in the insperation the peice was based off of the emotion of Licthenstein and the dream/decompositoin factor of Dali.. In this peice The subject is "mealting" do to stress. this Is based off of the ambitions conotation of dreams and is intended to represent how the high emotional weight of high ambition can cause this brake down of humans.
Insperation: the effect of Dali's work can be seen in the melting face and the decomposition of the subject in my work. Lictensteins influnce can be seen in They style of shading aswell as the colours used in the peice.

Reflection: The peice looks astetically pleasing to me but I dont think that it portrays the message as well as I would like it to. Perhaps to better showcase the mesage I would need to add more to the background that would portra the causes for the person melting. I also Think that instead of using blocked off colours on the lips and eyes I should have added in the dots to further show the Influnce that Lichtensteins work had on this peice.
