Although I've painted before I've never done it on this scale, it was also my first time stretching a canvas. The canvas itself is a large square, so it took a while just to complete the background. The background and torso were done with short fast brush strokes and at times when I got annoyed my hands. The face of this piece is no good, which is extra not good because the person is the most

important part in any portrait. I'm not that good at shading so I kept starting over eventually running out of time and just leaving it as it was. I based the stylization off of Van Gogh so the best portion of this piece is the background and torso where it actually accomplishes that goal.
Over all I would label this piece as a failure.
Well there are portions of it I like such as the hair, eyes, and basically everything except the face. It didn't accomplish the goal, the face doesn't look like me and even if it did it doesn't have the style of Van Goghs work as it should. Next time I need to work on making sure i keep the original intentions of the piece in mind, I feel as though if the face rocked and everything else sucked it would still be better than its current sate.
